violation of the grave of late Thomas Sankara : STATEMENT OF PAN-AFRICAN ORGANIZATIONS IN GERMANY

In relation to the violation of the grave of late Thomas Sankara on
July 28, 2011, the illustrious former Pan-African President of Burkina
Faso.

The Organizations involved in the Pan-African struggle in Germany
received with indignation and dismay the news with that the grave of the late President of Burkina Faso, His Excellency Thomas Sankara, was desacreted by vandals on the 28 of July, 2011.

This abuse means that even 24 years after his death on that terrible
day, 15th of October, 1987, our Pan-African brother can still not rest
in peace. In addition to the act of vandalism, an unknown liquid was
also poured over the grave.

This barbaric act goes against our pan-African vision of the world and societies. That African vision prescribes that any deceased must be treated with the greatest respect. Violating the grave of
this illustrious fighter, who gave up his life for a free and prosperous Africa, attests to the deterioration of moral values, which is progressively gaining a foothold in our countries.

Considering this fact, the Pan-African organizations in Germany join
voices to vigorously condemn the inacceptable crime.

Taking into account the guarantees given by the government of Burkina Faso concerning the security of the burial site of the former Head of State, the organizations are calling for the opening of a serious investigation within the next days in order to shed light on the circumstances of the ignoble act, identify, judge and duly sentence the abusers and their silent partners. Acts of this kind are worsening the misfortunes our dear Africa is already suffering from.

Our organizations reaffirm again their unfailing support to the family
of Thomas Sankara and to the initiatives that are struggling to ensure that justice is done to this dignified Son of Africa. The Pan-African organizations in Germany also share all this immeasurable pain with the family and the sister Initiatives.
